Edna Mabel Roloff O'Neal Deffes went home to be with her Lord October 8, 2016. She was born on December 10, 1917, to Nathaniel and Lydia Bader Roloff on a farm near Kulm, North Dakota. She graduated from Kulm High School in 1939 and attended beauty college in Fargo, North Dakota. In 1941, she married Kenneth O'Neal. They were married 25 years. She married Andrew Deffes in 1974 and they were married 25 years as well. Edna was a beautician for a few years. She also developed a successful business of being a personal shopper. Edna enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. Traveling, gardening, cooking, baking, canning garden produce, reading, and embroidering pillowcases were some of the things she loved to do. Edna was very proud of her many nieces and nephews. She was living in Arabi, Louisiana in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina struck. She chose to spend the rest of her life in Oklahoma where Ann Loper became her guardian/caregiver. She often remarked how good God was to her.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Lydia Bader Roloff; brothers, Clarence, Howard, Raymond, and Lee; sisters, Leah, and Selma: husbands, Kenneth and Andrew. Edna is survived by her sister, Lucille, and husband, Eugene; brother-in-law, George O'Neal and wife, Barbara; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff from Physicians Choice Hospice and Forest Glade Assisted Living Center for taking care of her. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 11 at 2 p.m., in the Resurrection Cemetery Chapel.
