On her daughter's death certificate (Isabelle), the informant refers to Isabelle's mother as Christina Dixon. I'm not sure what to make of that entry. I believe the informant may have confused two Christiana's in the family and their maiden surnames. One was Christiana Miller and the other was Christiana (Crago) Oney. It is surprising, however, since their birth dates are about 50 years apart. Also, the 1880 census would seem to indicate that Christiana Oney's sister Mary Elizabeth was more likely the mother of Finley Dixon than was Christiana Oney. Mary Elizabeth and Finley are in John and Anna's home together in 1880, while Christiana Oney had her own family elsewhere. In 1870 the two sisters were both in their parents' home with Finley, but only Mary Elizabeth and Finley are together in 1880. It is also noteworthy that Mary Elizabeth is shown as a Crago in both 1870 and 1880. It would imply that Finley Dixon may have used his biological father's surname, but his mother either never married, or married a Dixon after Finley was born, and her husband died before 1880. We just don't seem to have enough information to know.
I'd be happy to hear from any family members who could clear this up.
