Gary Cooley, 57 of Dale, Oklahoma and formerly of Mangum, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Gary was born in Pampa, Texas on November 28, 1958 to his parents Preston J.R. Cooley and Bertha Jane (Williams) Cooley. He grew up in Mangum and was a proud graduate of the Class of 1977 from Mangum High School. Shortly after high school Gary married the love of his life Vickie Lynn Martin in the backyard of Vickie’s parent’s house in Mangum and they have enjoyed almost 39 years of marriage together. He served his country in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. He attended classes at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus and received his bachelor’s degree from Cameron. Gary worked as a Social Services Specialist for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections at the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite, the Joe Harp Correctional Center in Lexington, and the Mable Basset Correctional Center in McLoud. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Bethel, Oklahoma and in his spare time he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and he also enjoyed watching OU football and basketball. But above all else, Gary always treasured time spent with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his grandparents and several aunts and uncles; Gary is survived by his wife Vickie Cooley of the home; his parents; his son, Travis Cooley and wife Rachel of McLoud; his daughter, Amanda Shea Beltran and husband Carlos of Perris, California; two sisters, Rita Osborne of Shawnee; and Donna Wright and husband Jerry of McLoud; his two favorite grandkids, Preston Lane Cooley and Zoey Marie Beltrane; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm, Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Living Water First United Pentecostal Church in Mangum with Shawn Laughlin officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum.
