Obituary:
A memorial service for Ethelyn LaVergne Dimmitt Dutton, 88, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. Inurnment will be at Beulah Cemetery in Colby.

Mrs. Dutton died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., of a cerebral hemorrhage sustained in a fall in her home.

She was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Colby, the daughter of Birch Vernon and Jessie Pratt Dimmitt. She graduated from Colby High School in 1934. She earned a bachelor's degree in public school music in 1938 from Park College in Parkville, Mo. She moved to Page City, where she taught journalism, French, math and agriculture for three years.

Mrs. Dutton moved to Colby in 1941 and Lawrence in 1969. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Colby and the Lawrence First United Methodist Church.

She married Marshall Wayne Dutton on May 31, 1941, in Colby. He died in 2000.

Survivors include a son, Marshall William, Kennewick, Wash.; five daughters, Marsha Dutton, Athens, Ohio, Kathleen Lange, Topeka, Judith and Tamara, both of Lawrence, and Daryl Ann Dutton Cody, Volcano, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant grandson.
