From staff reports
The details on the death of a 21-year-old Opelousas Marine killed Wednesday night in Iraq have not been released.
According to a family friend, Lance Cpl. Myles Cody Sebastien died just two months away from the end of his tour of duty.
Three members of the U.S. military were listed on www.iccasualties.org as having died Wednesday.
According to the report, in separate instances, a soldier was killed by an improvised explosive device detonated near a Multi-National Division-Baghdad patrol. A third soldier died from enemy fire in the Al Anbar province.
Sebastien was a 2004 graduate of Opelousas High. He leaves behind a wife, Kelie Arnaud Sebastien.
His former homeroom teacher at OHS, Kay Ortego, described him as having an extremely sharp mind. She said he came to the school to visit her before his last tour. Since her son is a soldier, she said she could understand Sebastien. When a student told her of his death, she said she thought it was a mistake.
"He was very intelligent, and he had a very quiet, dignified resignation," she said through tears. "I can see why he would make a good soldier."
According to his MySpace page, Sebastien was in Weapons Company 1/6, stationed at Camp LeJeune, N.C. He was a vehicle commander with the 2nd Marines Division. The "greeting" on his MySpace page is dedicated to his wife. It reads "I'm coming home to you, baby girl."
