Enlisted as a Corporal into Co E, 5th Louisiana Volunteer Infantry; Died at Frederick, MD from wounds received (severe wound in right arm, amputated) on 9 July 1864 at Monocacy, MD and pneumonia.

Octavus Chisolm was born September 19, 1840 to Octavus Chisolm and Malvina Effie Lodge Chisolm in South Carolina. His family relocated to New Orleans, in the later 1850s.
According to his Fold 3 records and p. 329 of the Louisiana Confederate Soldiers on Google Book: Octavus enlisted in the 5th Louisana Infantry Company E CSA on May 10, 1861 in New Orleans. He reported for his First Muster Roll at Camp Moore, LA on June 4th, 1861. He is Present on all rolls to Oct 1863. Octavus appears of the Federal Rolls of Prisoners of War as Captured Rappahannock Station, Va Nov 7, 1863. Octavus was exchanged at Point Lookout , MD March 10, 1864. He was wounded and captured at Frederick, MD July 10, 1864 . He died Aug 2, 1864 at USA Gen Hospital Frederick, MD, age of 23. Though Octavus is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetary, he is listed on the marker in the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery 15 Rosemary Magnolia Hawthorne in New Orleans, LA.
