Asa (Eddie) Kelly, 68, a Chaffee County native and long time Salida resident, died December 16, 2006 in Peoria, Arizona.

He was born to Asa and Mary E.(Mac Lead) Kelly at Browns Canyon on February 28, 1938.

Mr. Kelly attended Sand Park and Browns Canyon schools, and graduated from Salida High School in 1958. He was in the Army Reserves until the unit closed down in Salida.

Asa was a happy, hard working happy go lucky man and was always ready to help anyone that needed it. He was always ready with his little bit of wit and wisdom, and a smile on his face.

He and his brother Roy, ran the Poncha Truck Stop for three years. He worked for Bob Myers, and for many years for George and Tom Koenig at the Texaco Station in Salida.

Asa was employed by several mail contractors driving a mail truck. That is where he met Marles and they were married on June 14, 1975. He was also a job coach and van driver for Developmental Opportunities. He and Marles moved to Tucson, Arizona in 2003, and then to Peoria, Arizona where they lived at the time of his passing.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife, Marles; brother Roy Kelly and Charlene Beagle; a niece, Betta ReAnn Locke; four nephews Roy (Chip), Richard, Randy, and Roger Kelly; five step-children, Dailesa Devol, Mark, David, Marty and Marlin Broddus; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a nephew, Russell Kelly.

Celebration service of Mr. Kelly's life was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 23, at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Many musical selections were sung, and memories were shared by attending family and friends about Asa.
Reverend Chris Clarkson officiated at the services.
