Oscar U. Shaffer

SEVEN VALLEYS – Oscar U. Shaffer, 85, of 86 Church St., who was a dealer in raw furs most of his lifetime, died at 2 p.m. Monday at his home. He was the husband of Mary (Aldinger) Shaffer.
The service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Robert M. Goodling Funeral Home, 62 Main St. Burial will be in St. Jacob's Union Cemetery, York New Salem. Viewing will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Shaffer was born at Larue, the son of the late Howard and Mary (Glatfelter) Shaffer.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had served as a former assessor for Seven Valleys Borough and as a sub mail carrier for Seven Valleys RD 1. His memberships included the Seven Valleys Fire Company and the Tri-Community Ambulance Club.
Mr. Shaffer also is survived by a daughter, Sandra Shaffer Hershey, York RD 10; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Anna Sterner, of Rest Haven-York, and Florence Burns, 25 York St., Jefferson, and two brothers, Stewart Shaffer, 134 Church St., Glen Rock, and Paul A. Shaffer, 3 N. Main St., Spring Grove.
The Rev. Luther G. Heist, pastor of St. Jacob's United Church of Christ, York New Salem, will conduct the service.

Sandra Shaffer, Seven Valleys, Married Sunday

Seven Valleys - Sandra Faye Shaffer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Shaffer, this place, and Paul Samuel Hershey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hershey, 706 Noonan Road, York, were married Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Rev. M. L. Kroh, pastor, performed the double ring ceremony.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a white floor-length gown with a triple-tiered skirt of French Chantilly lace over satin, fitted bodice of Chantilly lace with a Queen Anne collar and sleeves ending in points over the hands. Her finger-tip-length veil fell from a cap of beaded pearls and sequins. She carried a cascade of white roses and snapdragons.
Mrs. Ernest Eaton, York, sister of the bridegroom, was matron of honor. Shirley Henry, this place, and Mrs. Marlin Daugherty, York RD 2, were bridesmaids.
Mrs. Eaton wore an orchid floor-length gown of nylon tulle over taffeta with a strapless bodice covered with a Chantilly lace jacket and a single strand of pearls. Her headdress was of satin leaves trimmed with pearls and a short illusion veil. She carried a cascade of yellow roses and snapdragons.
The bridesmaids wore aqua and pink gowns matching the matron of honor and a single strand of pearls. Both carried cascade bouquets of pink roses and blue iris.
The bride's mother wore a navy dress with white accessories and a Talisman rose corsage and the bridegroom's mother wore a navy dress with white accessories and a corsage of yellow roses.
Lester Ehrhart, York RD 1, half-brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. Ernest Eaton, York, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Charles Peters, York, were ushers.
Russell Bowman, soloist, sang "If I Could Tell You" and "I Love You Truly." The organist, A. Bradley Kopp, played "On Wings of Song," "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring," "Andante from Sixth Symphony," "To A Wild Rose" and the traditional wedding music.
About 125 guests attended a reception at Seven Valleys Community Hall.
The bride, a 1953 graduate of Spring Grove Joint High School, is employed by J. H. Stern Garment Company, Inc., here. The bridegroom, a 1949 graduate of William Penn Senior High School, York, is a student at Indiana Technical College, Fort Wayne, Ind. He served three years with the U.S. Marine corps and was formerly employed at York Corporation.
The couple departed for Fort Wayne, Ind., immediately after the reception.
