Bernard J. Olis, age 77, of Crown Point, passed away at Lincolnshire Nursing Home in Merrillville on Sunday, November 17, 2002. He was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Church, and a retired employee of U.S. Steel Corp. Mr. Olis served proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Fred Schmidt Post #20 of Crown Point, the Northwest Indiana Retirees Club and Local Union #1066.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa and Frank Olis and two brothers, Hubert and Edward Olis. He is survived by his wife, Dolores of Crown Point; two sons: Joseph (Pam) Olis of Valparaiso and Bernard Jr. (Tammy) Olis of Crown Point; two granddaughters: Melissa and Valerie Olis, both of Valparaiso; one sister: Betty Brier of Highland; three brothers: Frank (Thelma) Olis and Ralph (Olga) Olis, both of DeMotte and Adam (Erica) Olis of Ohio.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 21, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Consolation Church, 8303 Taft St., Merrillville, IN. Rev. Joseph E. Vamos, officiating. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Friends may call at the Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville, on Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Wake Service will be offered Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. American Legion Post #20 Service Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Olis may also be viewed directly at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. In memory of Mr. Olis memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
