His(James) father was Silas and his mother Mary Allen, both of New York. They came to Illinois in 1845, and settled in Henderson county. The father died in 1854; the mother afterward married W.A. Rogers, and now lives one mile south of Terre Haute. Silas Allen was a farmer, well respected by all in the community. He raised a family of five children, all of which are now living.
