JUNIPER, IDAHO – Matthew Austin Nelson was born Dec. 23, 2001, in Logan, Utah, to Jeremy and Tonya (Lawton) Nelson. He returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016.

Matthew was the oldest of six children and took that responsibility seriously. He was a wonderful example, guardian, and protector. He always put his family first. He had an infectious smile that he shared with everyone he met. He was always earnestly striving to be his best at all times.

He had a special ability to love everyone and a gift to know who needed it the most. He had a great love for Jesus Christ and His gospel and enjoyed sharing his testimony with others. He loved the scriptures and knew them well. He had a deep appreciation for the truth he found in them.

Matthew had a great love for the Constitution and an understanding of the freedoms which it grants. He loved handing out pocket Constitutions to people and encouraging them to read it.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Jeremy and Tonya; two brothers and three sisters: Ryan, Aliza, Trevor, Katrina and Rebecca; both sets of grandparents: Zeldon and Marylynne Nelson and Lyle and Sherlene Lawton; and many cousins, aunts and uncles who deeply loved him.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, Craig Allen Lawton.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Malta LDS Church, 280 N. 1st Street W., in Malta, Idaho, with Bishop Richard Hall officiating.

Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Logan City Cemetery, 1000 N. 1200 E., Logan, Utah.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, and from 8:30 until 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, both at the Malta LDS Church.
