Marcia J. Schmidt, 90, a long-time Sioux Falls resident, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016, in Maplewood, Minnesota, after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
Marcia Marilyn Johnson was born June 19, 1926, to Leslie T. and Bess (Sanborn) Johnson, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her family lived in several small Nebraska towns and she graduated from Cozad, Nebraska, high school in 1944. She went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska, was part of the Cadet Nurse Corp program, and became a registered nurse. Her nursing skills helped many friends and family members through difficult times.

She met and married Robert L. “Bob” Schmidt on a blind date in Lincoln, NE, and they married September 10, 1948. They loved the Black Hills and spent as much time there as they could each year, but they always considered Sioux Falls home.

Marcia loved cooking, gardening, playing the piano, and classical music, but nothing was more important to her than her family. She was a 70 year member of PEO, Chapter BD, and she was active in Bible Study Fellowship for several years. She was a wonderful role model for her children and granddaughters.

Blessed to have shared her life are her son, Robert Jr, her daughter, Cynthia (Mrs. Brian) Frankel, two granddaughters: Dr. Laura Wulff, and Sarah (Mrs. Lee) Olson, her sister, Ginny (Mrs. Duane) Skie, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Lou, and her husband, Bob.

Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home, Friday, September 23, 2016 from 5-7pm, and services will be held at Miller Funeral Home, Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 1pm, with viewing for the hour before.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the American Lung Association.
