Joe Evert Austin went home to be with our Lord on December 11, 2006 at the age of 81. He was born June 8, 1925 in Elmore City, OK. Joe enjoyed fishing, traveling and being a 30 year season ticket holder for the OU Sooners. He joined the army in 1943 and proudly served his 82nd and 101st Airborne Units. During this time Joe served in N. Africa, Sicily, Italy, England, France, Belgium and in December of 1944 fought in the Battle of the Bulge and also was awarded the purple heart. Joe enjoyed visiting all 50 states including, the provinces of Canada and Mexico. Joe was a member of South Lindsey Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alene (Mullins) Austin; wife, Geraldine; Survivors include his children, Joe L. Austin and wife Dori of Moore, Mark Austin and wife Kim of Arcadia, OK, Tammy Orr and husband, Ron of OKC, Stephanie Austin of ID; grandchildren, Todd, Ryan, Joanna, Hannah, Lisa; great-grandchildren, Evan, Jacob and Brendon; one very special friend and long time companion, Dortha, and lastly his little Schnauzer, Sally. The family would like to thank the staff at Sommerset Assisted Living Center for the compassionate care of our dad. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Baggerley-South Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
