A 55-year-old former Scranton man was killed yesterday afternoon when he fell three stories from the steel framework of the new St. Joseph Parochial School, Fifth and Laurel Sts., Hazleton, now under construction.
Robert Alt, Lake Ariel, formerly of this City, died of internal injuries and hemorrhages, according to Deputy Luzerne Country Coroner John Salvatore, Hazleton.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:20 p.m. by Dr. George Dornblazer, Hazleton.
Mr. Alt, a steelworker employed by the Hospodar Steel Co., Pottsville, was standing on one of the steel beams of the structure when he was knocked off balance by a load which was being hoisted to him be a crane. He hurtled to the basement of the building, striking several beams on his downward plunge.
Coroner Salvatore said Mr. Alt also suffered a broken neck and a possible broken back.
The body was removed to the Joseph Moran Funeral Home, Hazleton, and later was taken to the Howard J. Snowden Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave, this City.
A native of Scranton, Mr. Alt had made his home at Lake Ariel for eight years.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Hugh M. Sturm , this City, and Mrs. Roy H. Luce, Chinchilla. A niece and a nephew also survive.
The funeral will be held from the Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Monday at a time to be announced. Interment, Shady Lane Cemetery, Chinchilla.
