ACOB SHEW.
Jacob Shew, he circumstances of whose death, yesterday, are given elsewhere in today's Alta, had a wide range of personal acquaintance and friendship in San Francisco. He d been a resident in our midst for thirty years, and constantly engaged in active business, tbat brought bim into contact with large numbers of people. He was an intelligent man, active in mind, agreeable in manners, fond of company, and a member of many associations, whose meetings he attended regularly, taking prominent part in thoir prooeedings. He was a Druid, and a Knight of Pythias, had been the senior presiding officer in his lodge and his encampment as an Odd Fellow, and was, at the time of bis death, Vice-President of the Society of California Pioneers. His reputation as a citizen, a gentleman, and a business man, was so far as we have heard, without a stain.

Cause of death - suicide in his Photography studio at 914 Market street - probably due to financial embarrassment of his business . He was a photographer in San Francisco since 1849 and Vice President of the Pioneer Society. He was umarried.
