James R. Thomas, 55, of Dizney, passed away Friday, September 16, 2016, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. Born February 12, 1961 in Hamilton, OH, he had lived here all of his life. James worked for many years for Forest Products, believed in the Baptist faith and loved gardening.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Burley Thomas and Phenton Gambrel Thomas; his paternal grandparents, the Reverend Preston Thomas and Margaret Thomas; maternal grandparents, McKinley Gambrel and Pearl Gambrel.

Survivors include one sister, Kimberly Edwards and husband, Charlie, Dizney; one brother, Danny Thomas and wife, Eugena, Kenvir; nieces, Whitney Carroll and Samantha Johnson; nephews, Jonathan Osborne and Daniel Thomas; one great-niece, two great-nephews and a host of close friends that he loved dearly.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 until 5 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday, September 19, 2016, at 11 am at the Evarts Memorial Gardens with Brother John Luttrell officiating.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
