Dated Aug. 20 1896,an obituary ran in the GEORGIA ENTERPRISE that reads as follows. " Mr. A.B. Dobbs,of Brick Store District, while on his way from Covington to his home, several days ago, stopped with some of his friends to take a bath in the Alcova River. In diving in the water his shoulder was dislocated, and he came near drowning before his associates could get him to the bank of the river. The place where he made his dive was very shallow and his head and shoulders struck the bottom very hard. He was carried home and died the next day, although all that medical skill could do to save him was done. Aged about 40 years. He leaves a large family and many dear friends to mourn his sad and untimely death.

"This announcement actually refers to his brother Burrell Dobbs and mistakingly refers to A.B. Dobbs as the deceased. Alvin was probably the informant which might explain the error in print.

Alvin can be found in 1900 living in Justice Precinct 2,Camp,Texas with his daughter Harriet and son-in-law John Mitcham's household. He arrived in Texas in 1892 according to his pension application. He applied for a pension at the age of 84 in Texas. He died at the home of his son M.M. Dobbs on May 21,1917 as the result of a brain hemorrhage.

The clarification with the additional info on A.B. Dobbs aka Alvin Benson Dobbs was passed on to me from a descendant of A.B. Dobbs.
