The son of Johann Wolfgang & Mary (Smith) Aldinger and stepson of Anna Maria (Braun) Aldinger, he married Pennsylvania-born Catharine Geitzel or Gutsel ca. 1860 and fathered Harry Andrew (b. 12/22/60), Mary Louise (b. 08/03/62), Alice C. (b. @1863, d. 1864), and John Philip (b. 03/11/65). In 1860, he was a foundry worker living with his family in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and is in the 1863-65 draft registration still residing there.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty-six in Harrisburg August 19, 1864, mustered into federal service there August 25 as a private with Co. E, 201st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 21, 1865.
On July 14, 1890, he applied for a disability pension and received it. He died at his home following a two-year illness.
On November 27, 1903, Catherine applied for a widow's pension and received it.

DEATHS AND FUNERALS
Andrew Aldinger, aged seventy-five years, died at his home, 1815 North Seventh street (sic), on Friday morning at 1 o'clock. Bright's disease was the cause of death, after a two-years' illness. Mr. Aldinger was born In Germany and had been a resident of this city about fifty=one years. He was a member of the Evangelical Association and an attendant at Fifth Street Methodist Episcopal Church. He is survived by a widow, one son J. P. Aldinger. 2008 North Fourth street (sic0, one daughter, Mary L. Aldinger, at home, and two brothers, John Aldinger, of Linglestown. and Philip Aldinger, of Bridgeport. The funeral was held at 10 o'clock this morning from the house. Rev. B. F. Bohner, of Allentown, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. B. H. Hart, pastor of Fifth Street Methodist Episcipal (sic)Church. Interment was made in Harrisburg cemetery (sic). The pallbearers were William Makibbin, Jacob Santo, Jacob Holbert and Howard Long.
