A skilled cook, she had worked for ranches and restaurants around Nevada and California, as well as for Woodfords Elementary School and the Dresslerville Head Start Program.
She was a member of the Washoe Tribe, a master teacher of basketweaving for the Nevada Council on the Arts, and founder of the Washoe Language Circle. In 1980 she was honored as Senior Citizen of the Year by the Alpine County Board of Supervisors.
Preceding her in death were two sisters, Sylvia Andrews and Belma Jones, and one great-granddaughter. Survivors included a son, Wesley; daughter, Barbara Johnny; and six grandchildren.
