Biographical Information:

The father of seven children, Charles Bertrand (aka Charles Bertram) made his living as an insurance agent and realtor:

Bert had been an avid fly-fisherman as early as the 1920s, tying his own flies and testing them in Catskill streams and rivers. He was a member of the Beaverkill Trout Club. Bert purchased property in the area, at first a fieldstone house from a family named Miller, and Anvil Rock and the Sheely pools. Bert along with Dick Sterns was a "main catalyst" behind the formation of the Debruce Fly Fishing Club of which Bucky Sterns gives an apt account:

C.B. was involved in Piermont and Nyack village politics from about the mid-1920s to 1935. He ran on the Democratic ticket, serving at the time as Police Judge and Justice. He curbed speeding in Rockland County by consequently issuing fines.

C.B. had an array of hunting dogs, some of which he entered in competitions as early as 1937. The New York Times from Tuesday, October 28th, 1941, reported him taking first place with his hound McIntosh's O'Boy at the Beagle Club in Gladstone, New Jersey, a day before.

In the 1950's he sold his Catskill property and bought a cabin next to Willowemoc Creek near the Conklin covered bridge. Many of his 20 grandchildren remember these places fondly.

C.B. filmed his travels to Wyoming and to the West Indies.
