An illness covering a period of 18 months, during which time he suffered from a complication of diseases resulted in the death at 1:30 o'clock on Sunday morning of Josias Long of 3007 College Avenue, College Hill. The deceased was one of the oldest and best known residents of Beaver County, having lived here nearly his entire life.
He was a son of Mr. and Mrs Charles Long and was born in Stark County, Ohio, March 15, 1826, being more than 88 years at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Miss Ann Matilda Rayl and lived in Columbiana County, Ohio until 1860, removing to this county at that time. He had since resided here, being a resident of College Hill since 1886.
Mr. Long had been a member and an elder of the College Hill Reformed Presbyterian Church for the past 25 years and up until the time of his last illness, was very active in church work. He is survived by his widow, Mrs A. M. Long, one son, John B. Long and two daughters, Miss Linnie, at home and Mrs Olive B. Heltman of Kansas City, Kansas. Ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two sisters also surviving.
Funeral services will be conducted at the late residence at 2 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon. Reverend Alexander Savage officiating. Reverend R. H. Martin, pastor of the College Hill Reformed Presbyterian Church will assist. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery,
Services over the body of Josias Long were conducted at his late home in College Hill at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Many friends assembled to pay their last respects to one of the oldest residents of the community. Services were conducted by Rev. Savage, pastor of the Darlington R.P. Church of which the deceased was a member and an elder, assisted by Rev. R.H. Martin of the College Hill R.P. Church, Rev. Slater of the Geneva R.P. Church and Rev. Patterson of the Beaver Falls U.P. Church. Beautiful floral tributes were in evidence. The body was laid to rest at a later hour in a golden oak casket, in the family plot in Grandview Cemetery.
