Howard Coffman, 82, of Knightstown, died Saturday, May 28, at his residence, following an extended illness. He was born February 14, 1923, son of the late Wesley and Lora (Livesey) Coffman.

Mr. Coffman was a life-long resident of Knightstown. He was a graduate of Mays High School, distinguished as having never missed a day of school from elementary through high school. Mr. Coffman was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII. He was a member of the Knightstown American Legion Post #152 and 40/8, a member of the Knightstown Masonic Lodge #16, past president of the Henry County Shrine, a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Association, past chief of the Knightstown Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Knightstown Auxiliary and Civil Defense Police Departments, and a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Mr. Coffman had also served on the Henry County Park Board. He was an avid Indiana University basketball fan and enjoyed all Knightstown sports.

Mr. Coffman was a local State Farm Insurance agent for 42 years. He also had been employed by National Coaches in Knightstown and was the owner of the Knightstown Bowling Alley.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jackie (Jackson) Coffman; three daughters, Debbie (husband Rusty) Johnson, Brenda (husband Pat) Smoot, and Lori (husband Donny) Martin, all of Knightstown; seven grandchildren, Amanda Johnson, Hilary Johnson, Wes (wife Ashley) Smoot, Sarah Smoot, Tyler Smoot, Matt Martin and Drew Martin; two great-grandchildren, Makaley Smoot and Kinsley Smoot; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Coffman was preceded in death by three brothers, Burton, Lloyd and Herman Coffman; and two sisters, Thelma Delay and Frances Terhune.
Funeral services will be held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral service, Knightstown Chapel, Thursday, June 2, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by the Knightstown American Legion.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 1, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Masonic services will be performed Wednesday, June 1, at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock County Hospice, Shriners Hospital for Children or the Knightstown Public Library. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
