Jewel grew up in southeast Oklahoma until moving with her family to Moore in the early 1930’s and on to Mustang in 1933. She attended Mustang Schools and Mustang First Baptist Church. She met Herman Batterman during that time and they were married on January 9, 1938. They ran a dairy and farmed on Hwy. 152 in Mustang for many years.
Jewel loved to sew for her girls and decorate cakes for people in the community. She worked in food service at Mustang Schools and the FAA before going to work for South Community Hospital as a nurses aid and ward clerk until her retirement. She was very well respected and loved in the Mustang Community.
Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herman and grandson Tracy. Also by four sisters Mary, Laveda, Euda and Gladys and five brothers Jim, Bert, Teets, Frank, Arie and Delmar.
Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Beil and husband Leroy of Denton, Texas, Sharon Courtney and husband Darrold of Blanchard, Judy Courtney and husband Leslie of Blanchard and Jeanie Booze and husband Wayne of Mustang; also by twelve grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren and sixteen great great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Mustang, Oklahoma with interment following in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Wheatland, Oklahoma under the direction of McNeil’s Funeral Service, Mustang, Oklahoma.
