SALUDA, S.C. Malcolm Ray Banks, 81, of South Jennings Street, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Saluda Nursing Center.
The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Saluda Baptist Church, where he was a charter member. Burial will be in Travis Park Cemetery.
Mr. Banks was born in Saluda County to Julian Thomas Banks and Ella Dorn Banks. He owned and operated Banks Supermarket for many years. Upon the supermarket's closing, he became a dispatcher and deputy sheriff with Saluda County. After his retirement, he was employed with Ramey Funeral Home. At his church, he served as treasurer for 25 years, was a deacon and served on many church committees. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Saluda Fire Department for 45 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Conrad Banks; a sister, Gladys Hyler; and a grandson, Rodger Brown.
Surviving are his wife, Ada Bledsoe Banks of Saluda, a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Biddee Banks of Huntsville, Ala.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Tom Insalaco of Saluda and Madelyn and Mack Brown of Lexington; grandchildren, Jason and Jeremy Banks, Joanna and Travis Insalaco, Ryan Brown and Renee Hasson; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, J.T. Banks of Saluda.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Ramey Funeral Home.
