Jacob and his brother Mordecai were in partnership up on San Simeon Creek, they bought lands from a number of old timers that lived up to the top of the ridge from 1884 - 1894 and later moved out to Santa Cruz after the turn of the century. They had lost their mother in 1895 and had a sister Nancy Carroll that stayed along with a sister Mary E Gross.
