William Leroy "Bill" Franke, 67, of Interlochen, died Tuesday at Traverse Osteopathic Hospital. A native of Traverse City born to a pioneer family, he had worked as an expeditor in the shipping and receiving department of Cone Drive Gear until he retired in 1982. He also worked part-time at Copemish Family Market. He enjoyed helping others. Born in Traverse City on Nov. 5, 1922, he was the son of Alfred Louis and Edith (Barnes) Franke. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Lorri) Chamberlain of Grawn and Mrs. Stephen (Kimberly) Smith of Shelby Townshp;
a son, William Franke of Interlochen; three sisters, Elizabeth Pavlovic of Interlochen, Mrs. Roy (Rosemary) Schneider of Copemish and Mrs. Harry (Joanne) Grennay of Spokane, Wash; three brothers, Robert, James and Jack Franke all of Traverse City, and five grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his father, Alfred L. Franke in 1953; and his mother Edith (Franke) Doyle on Feb. 2. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. The Rev. Raymond Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may visit from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
