Son of Gustave and Amelia Franke
Gottfried Franke, a well known pioneer resident of the Grand Traverse region passed away Monday Nov. 10, 1941 at a local hospital at the age of 92 years. Mr. Franke was born in Germany on April 4, 1849 and lived there until he was thirteen years old, coming at that time to this country with his uncle Theodore Franke. He located in Canada for a few months and then moved to Michigan, residing in Grand Rapids. In 1871 he came to this city where he worked as a millwright and carpenter until 1889 when he took up farming. Mr. Franke was married in Grand Rapids to Miss Augusta Seten who died in Garfield Twp. July 23, 1898. Surviving are two sons Oscar of Grand Rapids and Alfred of this city, two daughters Elizabeth Louise Grebe of South Lyons and Julia Weiselberg of this city and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from the Weaver Mortuary, Rev. Charles A. Sanders pastor of the Emmanual Evangelical church officiating. Burial will be made in Oakwood Cemetery.
