Maxine G. Hall, loved by many as “Jiggy” or “Grandma Jiggy,” and admired by so many, passed away peacefully in her home on September 7, 2016.

Maxine was born in Sheldon, IA, in 1921. At the age of 4, she was adopted and raised by her beloved grandparents, Walter and Elva McCroskey. It was her grandfather Walt that nicknamed her “Jiggy” after a 1920s cartoon character. The nickname stuck throughout her life. Maxine adored her nickname so much that she often introduced herself as “Jiggy.”

Maxine grew up in Primgar and Archer, IA, where she helped her grandparents run the family owned grocery store in Archer, IA.

Maxine moved to Sioux Falls with her grandparents and attended her senior year at Washington High and graduated in 1941. Maxine met Charles “Charlie” Hall and the couple married on June 11, 1947.

Maxine and Charlie opened Hall Drug (later Hall’s Liquor Store) on the corner of 26th and Minnesota Avenue in 1948. They owned and operated the store for 39 years until they retired in 1987.

With beauty and elegance, Maxine modeled for Julia Iverson on KELO television for several years.

Maxine is preceded in death by her infant son, Roger Hall, her husband of 59 years, Charles Hall, and her son Fred Hall. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn (Larry) Storm, and Mary (Doug) Hendriks, eight grandchildren, Tara Tobin, Chad Hendriks, Melissa Wiese, Megan Hall, Nathan Hall, Braedon Hall, Charles Storm and Sam Storm, and thirteen great grandchildren.

A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. www.heritagesfsd.com.
