Mrs. Adams, Longtime Purmela Resident, Dies

Mrs. Kate Adams of Purmela died Wednesday evening, July 7, in the local hospital. She was 87.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday in the Gatesville Funeral Home chapel and were conducted by Minister Rolland McLean. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Purmela.

Mrs. Adams was a native of Purmela and lived in that community all her life. Her husband, David Westly Adams, died in 1949.

Mrs. Adams was a member of the Levita Church of Christ.

She is survived by four sons, T. H. (Hugo) Adams of Mexia, Fontaine Adams of Fritch, and J. M. Adams and Roy Adams, both of Gatesville; five daughters, Mrs. Caroline Whatley, Mrs. Genevieve Burt and Mrs. Melissa Hampton, all of Fritch, Mrs. Ernestine Schrank of Hamilton and Mrs. Elizabeth Brown of Gatesville; one sister, Mrs. Sylvine Richardson of Gatesville; a brother, Martin Adams of Gatesville; 35 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by two sons, David Daniel Adams and Richard Durwood Adams.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Adams' funeral were grandsons--Towne Adams, Richard Adams, Joe Whatley, Danny Adams, Nathan Adams, Ernie Burt, Martin Hampton and Ray Adams.
