Lt. De Busk lost his life in the Ploesti raid "Operation Tidal Wave" one of the most daring raids of WW2. Coming in at tree top level the 98th BG destroys the Romanian oil refineries. Lt. De Busk was awarded of the Distinguished flying cross for his valor.

Lt. Ray DeBusk, former O'Donnell High School teacher and coach was reported lost in action as a result of the Ploesti, Romania Oil Field raid on 1 August 1943, is now reported a prisoner of war, according to press reports. He was a navigator on the B-24 Liberator bomber "Damfino". Lt. Debusk's wife lives in Childress. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.O. DeBusk of O'Donnell. He was raised in O'Donnell and after graduating from Abilene Christian College, he returned home to his hometown to teach and coach in the high school. Lt. DeBusk enlisted in February 1941. For valor in the Ploesti raid, he has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
