Santa Paula, CA

The family of Susan Marie Hoctor Pugh, 65, of Ventura, CA is mourning her sudden and unexpected passing. She joined our Lord in heaven on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at her home in Santa Paula, CA.

Born October 6, 1950 in Saint Louis, MO, she is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Edward Hoctor and Patricia Lee (Hoctor) Troxell of Ventura, CA. She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.

Susan (also known as "Susy" by her friends & family) is survived by her three children, Sarah Elizabeth Pugh and husband Art, of Ventura, CA, Zachary Levi Pugh, of Studio City, CA, Shekinah Eden McGlocklin and husband Ian, of Glendale, CA, and niece Nicole Marie Moore and husband Sean, of Van Nuys, CA. She is also survived by her four siblings, Sally Leavens and husband Link, of Ventura, CA, Sandy Stellar of Del Mar, CA, Tim Hoctor of Ventura, Ca and Michael Hoctor of Houston, TX.

Susy was a long time resident of Ventura where she lived since her childhood. A cheerleader & competitive swimmer, she graduated from Buena High School in 1968.

She enjoyed spending time with friends, shopping, reading, politics, and frequenting her favorite restaurants in town. Her deepest passion in life was helping others. She loved road trips with her family, meeting new people, and 80's music. Even now, we know she is in heaven listening to Journey, dancing and full of joy.

Susy was an incredibly dynamic woman that touched so many people's lives throughout her own. She loved ferociously & gave endlessly, creating a home for those in need of shelter, food, and love. She was the brightest light & most beautiful free spirit.

Her proudest accomplishment in life was being a mother to her 3 children. She raised them to live with grace, kindness, selflessness, conviction, and to always fight for truth. She showed them that giving is far better than receiving, & instilled in them an incredible strength, and tender empathy. She taught them to love, fiercely & deeply, & taught them the importance of forgiveness, and how crucial it is to life. But most importantly, the greatest gift she ever shared was her faith & love of Jesus.

The family will celebrate her life on Friday, October 23rd, from 6pm-midnight, at Garman's Pub in Santa Paula, CA.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura, CA. 805-642-8134. -
