James “Jim” C. Akers, 75, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Monday, September 5, 2016 at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his loving family.


Born Monday, June 30, 1941, in Crystal Springs, PA, he was the son of the late Charles Wellington Akers SR. and the late Mary Elizabeth (Kagarise) Akers.

He graduated from Southern Fulton High School in 1959, and served as Airman First Class in the United States Air Force, from 1959-1964. He was a graduate of Florida Technical College and retired in 1995, from Farmer’s and Mechanics National Bank in Frederick, MD where he served as Sr. Vice President, and Manager of Data Processing. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Doris Lee (McCray) Akers; sister, Lois McGeary, and brothers, Allen Akers and Robert Akers. He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Parsons of Mt. Union, PA and Sonja Kirchner of Hagerstown, MD, brothers, Charles Akers JR of Crystal Spring, PA, and Stanley Akers of Saratoga Springs, NY, grandchildren, Ashley Myers of Hagerstown, MD, Nathan Malloy of Milwaukee, WI, Milton Dorr of Martinsburg, WV, Hannah Barnes, Abigail Barnes, Luke Barnes, and Benjamin Kirchner, all of Hagerstown, MD, great-grandchildren, Damian and Ezekial Mongan, Dillinger Myers, Skylar and Trystan Malloy and numerous nieces and nephews, with Ron Akers and his wife Carol of Greencastle, PA, especially near and dear to his heart.

Services will be held Friday, September 9, 2016 at 2 pm, at Paramount Baptist Church, 13234 Marsh Pike Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Rickard officiating. Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD, Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and one hour prior to Friday’s services at Paramount.

Internment will be at 4:30 pm at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Warfordsburg, PA

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Paramount Baptist Church and Hospice of Washington County.
