He was born August 31, 1932, at Mount Union, the son of C. Brandon "Ike" Cunningham and Kathleen (Longacre) Cunningham. He married Sally Ann Calupca on August 10, 1957.
His wife survives along with three children: Fredric Merrill Cunningham, Jr. and wife Kathleen of Mooresville, NC; David Andrew Cunningham and wife Suzann of Cranbury, NJ; and Michele Nancy (Cunningham) DiFranco and husband Michael of Brookeville, MD. There are eight grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters: Phyllis Cindric of Somerset; and Mrs. John (Joann) Remek of Mount Union. An infant brother and one sister, Ms. Kay Rosenberry of Mount Union, preceded him in death.
He graduated from Mount Union High School and Shippensburg University. He received an honorable discharge from the US Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Cunningham was retired from Mobil Oil Co. where he had worked as an accountant for 37 years.
He was a member of American Legion Post 107, Mount Union, VFW Post 5754, Mount Union, and the Knights of Columbus.
His friends will remember his love for the golf course, having started golfing in Mount Union and returning later in life to the American Legion Country Club.
