Charles “Shottie” Wiley Shryock, age 82 of Joplin, MO passed away Monday September 5, 2016 at his home.

He was born on July 19, 1934 in Galena, KS the son of Charles “Shot” and Thelma Steely Shryock.

He married Rosa Lee Walton on May 30, 1954 in Galena, KS. Shottie worked for 43 years in the insurance business. He worked at Metropolitan Life and Wilson Turner Gavin as an insurance Broker. He was the secretary of Treasure for Labor Counsel, an Antique Dealer, a Hamm Radio operator for MARS and loved Fishing.

Shottie was preceded in death by his parents, a son Craig Michael Shyrock and a sister Mary Catherine Atkinson. He is survived by his wife Rose of the home, two sons Mark Alan Shyrock and wife Joan of Longview, MO, David Bruce Shyrock of Joplin, MO, six grandchildren Kallie McDaniel, Cierra Shryock, Macie Shryock, Destin Shryock, Keegan Cearnal and Tara Shryock and four great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday September 9, 2016 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory with Pastor David Wood Officiating.

Burial Will follow in the Lowell Cemetery, Baxter Spring, Ks.

The family will receive friend from 1:00 pm to service time Friday at the Mortuary.

Arraignments entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory.

Mary Atkinson

Mary Catherine Atkinson, 54, 1120 Murphy Ave., died at 3:41 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Mrs. Atkinson was born Aug. 9, 1938, at Galena, Kan., and was a lifelong resident of the Galena-Joplin area. She was a 1957 graduate of Galena High School and was a homemaker.

She married Gary Atkinson on June 19, 1957, at Joplin. He survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Miksell and Heather Atkinson, both of Joplin, and Pamela Bannister, Memphis, Tenn.; her father, Charles P. Shryock, Joplin; a brother, Charles W. Shryock, Joplin; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. The Rev. Bob Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Shryock, Mark Shryock, Craig Shryock, Jason Summers, Hank Bannister and John Plagmann.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
