Dean Dermont Roberts, 88, of Minersville, UT, passed away at the Beaver Valley Hospital on September 3, 2016.
He was born April 13, 1928, in Leota, to Louis D and Winifred Louise Dean Roberts. He married Marlene Lennstrom in Salt Lake City May 15, 1953 and later solemnized June 24, 1954, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Dean was active in the LDS church serving three missions: Spanish American Mission 1948-51, McAllen Texas Mission 1997-98, Charlotte North Carolina Mission 1998-2000. He also served as a dedicated temple worker in the Vernal Temple for 11 years. Dean has served in various capacities in ward callings as Scoutmaster, bishopric counselor, home teacher, YM President and High Priest group leader.
He received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Animal Husbandry, Agronomy, and Spanish. Dean also became certified in Education Administration as an elementary and high school teacher and elementary and high school principal for 22 years. He was a community educational director, and special education director. He was the president of the Northern Division of Utah Secondary Activity Association, president of Duchesne Administrators Association, and Vice President of the Uintah Basin Irrigation Company. He received an NDEA Foreign language scholarship at San Francisco State.
Calving season was his highlight in the spring. He loved his Bluebell farm. Horse backpacking into the Uintah’s with his brothers and sons brought him joy. He loved all of his little grand and great grand children dearly. They were the light of his life. He treasured writing children’s short stories, and poetry in English and Spanish. Dad had many titles throughout his life: counselor, principal, teacher, farmer, uncle, cousin, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and most important, a child of God.
Dean is survived by his wife Marlene Lennstrom Roberts and 10 children, Kathleen (Klay) Groll, Elwood; Sharon (Lamar) West, American Falls, ID; Calvin (Margo) and Coray (Lisa), Bluebell; Brent (Kimberly), Providence; Yvonne (Steve) Shaver, Monroe; Sterling (Melanie), Hooper; Gregory (Laura), Weston, ID; Roxanne (Alan) Pollmann, Minersville; Monte (Lana), Syracuse; 40 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren; siblings, Florence Stastad, Provo; L.
