Services for Don Barr will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Hilliard Funeral Home, with Rev. Shelby Davidson officiating. A graveside will follow at Sand Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at Hilliard Funeral Home.

Donal Ray Barr was born March 30, 1934 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and passed away at the age of 82 on September 4, 2016 in Rockwall. After growing up the Dallas area, Don moved to Van, where he and JoAnn spent most of their lives and raised their girls. He was a devoted father and family member. He retired from Union Oil Pure Transportation where he worked as a field dispatcher, and was a member of Pruitt Baptist Church. He was a member of the Colfax Masonic Lodge, Van Kiwanis Club and was on the Van Oil Museum Board of Directors. As a way to give back, he loved playing Santa Claus each year for the city, schools and community. He also enjoyed wood-working, gardening, hunting, fishing, and was an avid sports fan. He especially loved the Texas Rangers.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, JoAnn Dowdle Barr who passed away in 2012; father, George Barr; mother, Jewel Dovie Sisk Whiteley; and brothers, Jerry Barr, Robert Barr, Merle Barr, Dan Whiteley and Tommy Whiteley.

Survivors include his three daughters and sons-in-law, Roxann Harrod & Robert Pena of Royse City, Kim & David Todora of Grapevine and Tammye & Jed Herrin of Rockwall; sister, Linda Sallee of Longview; four grandchildren, Stacie Mitchell of Little Elm, Jessica Bertucci of Rowlett, Courtnee Brokaw of Florida and Colby Herrin of Nebraska; three great-grandchildren, Alec Mitchell of Little Elm, Madden Herrin of Nebraska and Hadlee Herrin of Nebraska; and sisters-in-law, Pat Barr of Oklahoma and Nell Dowdle of Longview.

Pallbearers will be Robert Pena, Jed Herrin, David Todora, Colby Herrin, Rick Harrod, and Brad Barr.
