"The first settlements within the limits of the present county of Benton were made several years before the county was created. Thomas Timmons, who with his family, settled on Big Pine Creek, in the year 1831, on or near the farm now owned by his son Benjamin A. Timmons, is commonly supposed to be the first white settler within the present limits of Benton County."
