CLAYBROOK, Harry Dixon---Civil engineer, gentleman farmer, author and poet, passed away January 5, 2007 to be with our Lord. Born January 29, 1923 in Trenton, TN to Harry Pierce and Lee Dixon Claybrook. Preceded in death by parents and wife, Mary Anderson Cissy Claybrook; brother, James Claybrook.
Survived by sons, S. Andy Kim Claybrook, Franklin, and John D. Cammie Claybrook, Nashville; grandchildren, Amy Rees Greenman, Nashville, Scott Claybrook, Franklin, and Hannah, Molly, and Grace Claybrook of Nashville; siblings, Katherine C. Fitzgerald of Memphis, Mary Evelyn Cavit Cheshier of Nashville, and Huey P. Nancy Claybrook of Martin, TN; many nieces and nephews.
Veteran of World War II U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater, honorably discharged in 1946. Graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville 1949. Former employee of Marr and Holman, Taylor and Crabtree, and Turner Engineering Co. Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE, former President of and named Engineer of the Year 1977 by the Nashville Section of the ASCE. Former President of the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers. Member of Belle Meade United Methodist Church for over 40 years. He was a voracious reader, prolific "letter to the editor" writer, and passionate weekend farmer and gardener. He was devoted to his wife, sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and siblings, and will be greatly missed.
Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, January 8, at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, and at Belle Meade United Methodist Church from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, followed by a memorial service and celebration of his life at the church at 3:00 pm. Private family burial. Special thanks to the staffs of Beacon Pointe of Franklin and Odyssey Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army or Belle Meade United Methodist Church.
