Paul Kenneth Propst died peacefully in Fair Lawn, NJ on March 24, 2019 at age 93.
Paul was born June 22, 1925 in Burke Co., NC. Before moving to Paramus, NJ in
2017, Paul lived in Shelby, where he spent many years volunteering for Elizabeth
Baptist Church and singing in the senior choir. He later became an active member
at Bethel Baptist Church. Before his retirement Paul worked as a Rate Clerk and
Weight and Research Clerk for Overnite Transportation Company in Gaffney, SC.

During World War II, Paul proudly served in the US Navy. Paul loved his country
and wanted to enlist in the Navy in the early part of 1943. But since he was the only
boy in the family and only 17 years old, his mother refused to sign the papers. She
later changed her mind, and in August he found himself on a ship bound for Sydney,
Australia. While in the Southwest Pacific, his ship earned two battle stars, one for
the New Guinea Campaign and one for two invasions in the Philippines. After twenty-
three months overseas, he returned to the States. Paul was home on leave when
Japan surrendered.

Paul was husband to the late Kathleen May Propst (nee) Dellinger and father to Kathy
Ann Coffey (nee) Propst and her husband, The Rev. Kevin P. J. Coffey. He was a proud
grandfather to Kevin Paul Coffey, Keely Coffey and her husband Tony Sina. Paul was
an adoring great-grandfather to William Sina. Paul is also survived by a sister, Jo Ann
Childers (nee) Propst and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Paul was held on April 6th at the Episcopal of the Atonement in
Fair Lawn, NJ. Paul will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife on Monday, July 1st at
11 AM. The brief graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Kevin P. J. Coffey at
Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery, 301 North Post Road, Shelby, NC 28152. The fam-
ily will receive friends at that time.
