Sgt. Nicholas Turcotte of Maple Grove, Minn., graduated from Maple Grove High School in 2001 and attended North Hennepin Community College. He enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard as an Infantryman on July 30, 2004 and was assigned to A Company, 2nd Battalion, 135th Infantry in West St. Paul. He was assigned to A Company when the unit was mobilized with the 1st of the 34th Brigade Combat Team in Fall of 2005. After six months of training in Camp Shelby, Mississippi, A Company deployed to Iraq in March 2006. He was 23.
