Gerald P. (Jerry) Ritchie, 79, of Eau Claire passed away on August 8, 2006, at Dove Healthcare Nursing & Rehabilitation under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.

He was born in Westby, Wis. on January 25, 1927, to Forest and Hazel Ritchie, the oldest of five sons. He graduated from Cashton High School in 1945 and was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in the Medics for 1_ years. He attended La Crosse State Teachers College and later graduated from Industrial Training Institute, Chicago, Ill.

On June 11, 1950, he married Elsie Blatter at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam, Wis. He began working for AT&T in 1955, in Beaver Dam, Wis. and moved to Eau Claire in 1963, where he finished his career at WI Bell as Manager of Outside Plant Engineering until retirement in 1986.

He loved working outdoors and was an avid gardener and arborist. Another of his hobbies was stained glass. He and Elsie traveled widely, visiting many countries.

He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, and had previously been a member of the Lutheran Church of St. Matthew, where he served in many offices over the years.

Gerald is survived by Elsie, his wife of 56 years; his son, Paul (Jillian) of Lebanon Township, N.J., his son, Mark of Deerfield, Wis.; daughter, Jeanne (Richard) DeHart of Beloit, Wis.; and three beloved grandchildren, Rachel and Jeremy Yap and Evangeline Ritchie. He is also survived by brothers, Le Roy Ritchie of Pottsboro, Texas, Don Ritchie (Betty) Shorewood, Wis., Larry Ritchie (Karen) of Urbana, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, and a brother, Robert, preceded him in death.

Gerald will best be remembered for his unfailingly kind, gentle, and loving spirit and sense of humor.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2006, at Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Pastor Frederick W. Theiste will officiate. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in the town of Washington immediately following the service.

Friends may call at the church Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Family and friends may direct memorials to Concordia Lutheran Church in Gerald's name.
