She was born on April 23, 1928, in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, to Christian and Elsie Albright Blatter, the youngest of three children. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1946, then did secretarial work for several years in Columbus.
On June 11, 1950, she married Gerald Ritchie at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and continued working there until the birth of their first child. From that time on, she was a stay-at-home mother.
She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, and had previously belonged to the Lutheran Church of St. Matthew. She enjoyed volunteering and served in these parishes, as well as Sacred Heart Hospital, for many years in a variety of roles.
Elsie loved sewing, calligraphy and caring for her home. She was an exceptional bridge player. She and Gerald traveled extensively to Europe and Asia as well as across the United States. She will best be remembered as someone who was completely committed to her family. She particularly loved spoiling her grandchildren, who she adored.
Elsie is survived by her son Paul (Jillian), of Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania; son Mark, of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; daughter Jeanne Vosburgh (Tom), of Rockford, Illinois; and three beloved grandchildren, Rachel and Jeremy Yap and Evangeline Ritchie. Elsie is also survived by her brother Stanley, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and her sister Mabel, of Columbus, Wisconsin, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her parents and her husband, Gerald, preceded her in death.
