Ruth R. Dawson, age 94, of Cedar Bluff, VA, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Commonwealth Memory Care in Claypool Hill, VA.
She was born in Lynch, KY and was the daughter of the late James Henry and Beulah Ethel Atwell Rowland. Ruth devoted her life to caring for her family and was a very talented musician. She was a former organist and pianist for St Mary’s Catholic Church and Hurst-Scott Funeral Home. Ruth was a devoted member of the Richlands First United Methodist Church and a volunteer for the Ladies Auxiliary at Clinch Valley Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lloyd Dawson; daughter, Linda Evans; and sons, Bobby Dawson and Jimmy Dawson.

Funeral services for Ruth R. Dawson will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with the Rev. Betzy Elifrits Warren officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the funeral home.
