Shirley Ann Scheuermann, age 84, of Quincy, formerly of Payson and Liberty, died Monday, August 29, 2016, at 11:10 pm in Illinois Veterans’ Home.

Shirley was born July 23, 1932 in Basco, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Walter and Ruby Lenore Barnaby Staff. She married Lawrence E. Scheuermann on November 14, 1953 in Tioga, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2010.

She graduated from Bowen High School in 1950. Before her marriage, Shirley worked for Gardner Denver as a typist. Once she and Lawrence were married, most of her time was spent taking care of their children and their home. After her kids were all in school, she worked for five years as a cook at the Skyway Restaurant at the Quincy Regional Airport.

Shirley attended Worldwide Church of God for many years, and later in life she attended Faith Assembly of God. She was a member of the Payson Garden Club, and at the Illinois Veterans’ Home she enjoyed the Red Hat Society meetings. Shirley was an avid gardener, of both flowers and vegetables, and she loved to make flower arrangements. Shirley was an excellent cook, and she enjoyed music and animals. Most of all she loved her family.

Shirley is survived by three children: Marcia (James) Elliott of Liberty, IL; Allen (Kim) Scheuermann of Payson, IL; and Mark (Darlene) Scheuermann of Quincy; a brother, Norman (Kathleen) Staff of Jacksonville, IL; a sister-in-law, Arline Staff of Congerville, IL; nine grandchildren: Donna (Frank) Tournear of Vermont, IL; Dianna Elliott of Liberty, IL; Jessica (Kevin) Gillespie, of St. Charles, IL; Shawn (Stacy) Gilmore of Payson, IL; Erich (Erin) Gilmore of Quincy; Kayla (Brandon) Schmitt of Payson, IL; Miranda Flaugher of Kansas City, MO; Evan Scheuermann; and Ryan Scheuermann both of Quincy; 12 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Linda Flaugher, and a brother, Joe Staff.

Services: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Connour officiating.

Burial: Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 12:00-2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
