Lawrence E. Scheuermann, 79, of 1707 N. 12th, died Tuesday (Jan. 19, 2010) in the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born Feb.13, 1930, in Sutter, a son of Albert and Mattie Hardy Scheuermann. On Nov. 14, 1953, he married Shirley Staff in Tioga. She survives.

Lawrence worked on the family farm in Hancock County as a young man. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Payson VFW Post No. 2061. He was employed in the security department of Moorman Manufacturing Co. for 21 years and retired in 1990. After retirement, he was employed in the shuttle service for a photo service as well as Shottenkirk because he loved to drive. Lawrence was a woodworker, pitched horseshoes, liked to shoot pool, bowl and throw darts. He was very friendly and loved to visit with people. Lawrence was also amateur radio operator KB9MOM. Lawrence attended Faith Assembly of God Church.

Survivors in addition to his wife include four children, Marcia Elliott and her husband, Jim, of Liberty, Allen Scheuermann and his wife, Kim, of Payson, Linda Flaugher and her partner, Monte B. Davis Sr. of Climax Springs, Mo., and Mark Scheuermann and his wife, Darlene, of Quincy; nine grandchildren, Donna Tournear and her husband, Frank, of Vermont (Ill.), Dianna Elliott of Liberty, Jessica Gillespie and her husband, Kevin, of Pingree Grove, Shawn Gilmore and his wife, Stacy, of Quincy, Erich Gilmore of Payson, Kayla Scheuermann of Payson, Miranda Kompass and her husband, Patrick, of Kansas City, Mo., and Evan and Ryan Scheuermann, both of Quincy; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Krasuski and Bernice Nicholson, both of Burlington, Iowa; two brothers, Wilbur Scheuermann of Carthage, and Ronald Scheuermann of Salem, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Ellen Scheuermann of Camp Point; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond.

Services: noon Saturday in Faith Assembly of God with the Rev. Larry Connour conducting. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park. VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
