Pastor John Downey Crisman, 84, of Edinburg, Viriginia, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Winchester Medical Center.

The funeral service will be held Friday, September 2. 2016 at 11:00 am at Valley Baptist Church, Edinburg. Pastors Daniel Crisman, Chad Estep and Jerry Young will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery, Edinburg, VA.

He was born May 9,1932 in Edith, Shenandoah County, Virginia, a son of the late John William Crisman and Maude May McDaniel Crisman.

He graduated from Edinburg High School in 1951 and Tennessee Temple College, Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1961. John was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.

In December 1966, the First Baptist Church of Wardensville, West Virginia was organized with John as the founding pastor. He faithfully served as the pastor of that church for 44 years before retiring in 2011 due to poor health.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sara Ann Crisman and brothers Philip W. and Fred M. Crisman.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Miss Jeane Carolyn Holler; one daughter, Beth Jean Cecil and husband Frank; son, Daniel John Crisman and wife Bethany; six grandchildren, Wyatt and Benjamin Cecil and Lillian, Seth, Lucianne and Nathanael Crisman; surviving brother, Ben Crisman and 3 sisters, Hazel Barton, Mary McClanaham and Doris Crisman.

Pallbearers will be Frank Cecil, Ben Cecil, Aaron Crider, Chad Davis, Mike Cook and Nelson Borden. Honorary pallbearers will be John Dellinger, Wyatt Cecil, and Seth Crisman.

The family will receive friends at Valley Baptist Church, Thursday evening, September 1, 2016 from 6:30-8:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Valley Baptist Christian School, 408 Stoney Creek Road, Edinburg or WOTC 88.3 FM, 146 Parson Point Lane, Edinburg.
