Joe was married to Maybelle Williams. Their children were Essie M Stephens Banks, who was married to Claude Bob Banks and Claude Stevens, married to Carrie. Claude said they got his name messed up on his work records and he just went with it and his children followed that spelling. Joe's other sonswas Nick Stephens and willie stephens.
Nick Stephens and Claude Stevens, along with Maebelle are buried in the Williams Family Cemetery at Bethel Community. Claude Stevens's wife Carrie and children are buried at Bethel Cemetery.
