Walter Earnest Keen, 75, of Jersey Church Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after a serious illness of several days.


The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Center Hill Baptist Church by the Revs. Roy Cantrell and Lamar Moore and Pastor Ronnie Shaw.


Mr. Keen was born in Buchanan County, Va., on Feb. 10, 1928, to Harvey Keen and Linda Hinkle. He retired from Council Business Furniture and was a guard at the Davidson County box site at Silver Valley. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde Keen and Robert Keen; and a sister, Kathleen Kay Smith.


Surviving are his wife, Linda Gail Welch Keen of the home; four sons, James Keen, Wayne Keen, Larry Keen and Ernest Keen; three daughters, Linda Keen, Debbie Keen and Donna Keen; four brothers, Herman Keen of Lovena, Texas, Otis Keen of Dismal, Va., Andrew Keen of Bristol, Va., and Sherman Keen of Short Gap, Va.; and one sister, Mazie Hibbits of Honaker, Va.


The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Piedmont Funeral Home and at other times at the home on Jersey Church Road.
