Walt Sinner, 88 of Waubay died on Friday, August 26, 2016 at a Milbank Hospital.

His funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Charles Bunk will officiate. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services at the church.

Walter Theodore Sinner was born on June 18, 1928 to Theodore and Ella (Aspen) Sinner at Waubay, South Dakota. He was the first baby to be baptized in the Lutheran Faith at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay where he was later confirmed in the same church. He attended Waubay schools and high school. In October 1946 he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Constabulary Squadron late in World War II. After he was honorably discharged in February 1948 he returned to Waubay.

He was united in marriage to Marlene Goebel on December 26, 1953 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay. After their marriage the couple made their home in Webster where Walt worked in the engineering department of South Dakota Highway Department. Walt also operated an auto salvage business. He left the highway department in the late 1960’s and purchased the Texaco Gas Station and Bulk business which he operated until 1973. After selling the Texaco business he worked various jobs until 1978 when the couple moved to Blue Dog Lake and he opened his business,Walt Sinner Auto in Waubay. In 1997, because of flooding, the couple moved their home into Waubay. He operated Sinner Auto until 1990 when his son, Jack took over the business. Marlene passed away in July 2014. After her death he remained in his home in Waubay.

He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay, Herbert McKennett Post 40 American Legion in Webster, the Webster V.F.W. and Disabled American Veterans.

Walt passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Milbank, South Dakota at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 8 days.

Survivors include one son Jack Sinner of Waubay, SD; one daughter, Cindy Yanta of Watertown, SD; one brother, John Sinner of Webster, SD; four grandchildren, Derek (Jenna) Sinner of Webster, SD, Devin (Stacy) Sinner of Watertown, SD, Travis Yanta and Traci Yanta both of Minneapolis, MN; and three great grandsons, Hunter and Grant Sinner of Webster and Lexin Sinner of Watertown, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three sister, Ethel, Thelma and Swanhild.
