Son of Clarence J. and Mary E. (Drennen) Holmes. He married Norma I. Swords on June 26, 1948, in Peoria, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2013, in Peoria.


He is also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marvin and Delbert.


Clarence is survived by three sons, Michael S. (Mary), Gregory (Dee) and Timothy (Janet); two daughters, Teresa (Terry) Lane and Lisa (David Hughes) Holmes; one brother, James O. Holmes; and four sisters, Frannie Roberts, Olive Goldschmidt, Patsy Souba, and Rosalie Stoller.


Clarence served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Navy Occupation Medal.


Upon returning from the war, he was employed as a fireman for the City of Peoria for over 25 years retiring as a Captain in 1977 and he worked 50 years for D. A. Hoerr Nursery retiring in 2011.


He was an avid golfer and loved his yearly fishing trips to Minnesota for over fifty years.


Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria with military rites.
